T5 Project: Lowlands Away

Lowlands away is a pirate-themed EP that is being produced by Sevin Fernando and myself for our trimester 5 studio project. Pirate themed music can be portrayed in many different ways. The songs will be a mixture of Punk music with a Polka arrangement, as well as vocals that are very much like Irish Sea Shanties. Sea shanties play a big role as an inspiration to our music. The shanties bring people together and help people bond through singing and having fun. We looked for that similar impact through our album.

The album will consist of many shanty style vocals which do include a full crew so the listener can join in and have fun singing. The instrumentation will be very folk like as well as punk like. Main instruments would include bass guitar, drums, electric guitar, ukulele, melodica and an accordion. Lowlands Away will consist of four different tracks which includes a cover of a very well known shanty known as “Roll the Old Chariot.”

Lowlands Away starts with an atmospheric point of view of a pirate which leads to an attack from another ship. The first song starts from when the attacking ship shoots a canon onto the listeners' ship. The second song will be the cover of “Roll the Old Chariot” which will show the desires of the defending pirates. The third track is describing the struggle you are going through while in battle. And the last song is where the listener loses the battle and sadly drowns in the sea. The full album will be mainly mixed in 5.1 Dolby atoms Surround Sound, as well as in stereo.
