T3 Project: Oblivion by Chemikill

Oblivion is an EP produced by Sevin Fernando, Nedeera Yappa and myself. It was our trimester 3 project which needed to include both electronic and acoustic elements. The group had members who specialize in both categories as I specialized in the acoustic elements, Sevin specialized the electronic elements and Ned helped with both as he is talented as a musician electronically and acoustically. The album was more metal centered while being very melodic.

We wanted to build a story around the album, therefore we created our own character called Skytzo. The album started with an intro that had a very happy melody and chord pattern which changed to a dark scary tune while hearing the screams of Skytzo. The first song is a cover of “Jacks Lament” from the animated film Nightmare Before Christmas. While the main character Jack Skelligton is singing, the lister can hear Skytzo trying to interfere in the song which leads him to sing the outro and the instruments become Moore heavier and distorted.

The next track, Midnight Waltz, is a track where Skytzo is free and he is causing terror and destruction. The track is very heavy and has a similar composition to a waltz. It sticks with the Nightmare Before Christmas melodic composition and the horror-themed guitar tone to give the listener a scare.

The EP concluded with the "Painted Laugh" which is a short outro where a news reporter is talking about the Skytzo incident and warning people to stay indoors. The acoustic elements were mainly composed and recorded onto Pro Tool while the electronic elements were made in FL studios. However, all the elements of every track were mixed on Pro Tool.
