T4 Project: 5 Elements of Earth
For my trimester 4 studio project, my group and I decided to create an album that would be recorded live (all performers playing at the same time while recording). Although the group was made up of 5 musicians, none of us intended to be any of the performers. We all intended to be the recording, mixing and mastering engineers. Due to musicians backing out, two of our group members joined to play rhythm guitar as well as drums.
The album was called The 5 Elements of Earth. The elements were Earth, Air, Water, Fire, and Humans. Each song had different instrumentation and composition styles to accompany the element it was associated with.
Earth had a very Heavy metal tone with a lot of emphasis on Bass and low end. Air had a lot of woodwind instruments and focused more on instruments with higher frequencies. There was also very soft vocals to accompany the mood of the song. Water was sort of an interlude where the whole song was recorded as if sounded underwater. it also had a very slow and melodic guitar solo to go with the full atmosphere. Fire was very fast and heavy, we were aiming to portray the panic of when there is a fire. Human was the addition where it shows the connection between humans and how they bond even though they are from different cultures and countries.
